The Making of a Masterpiece, The True Story of Margaret Mitchell's Classic Novel Gone With The Wind contains the exclusive Civil War history behind Margaret Mitchell's story. Rains had access to a scrapbook from Mitchell's family which contains pictures from the 1800's as well as stories from Mitchell's Civil War ancestors. Some of these stories are very similar to stories in Gone With The Wind.

| Rains got her writing start at KMOX/CBS Radio in St. Louis, in the sports department where among other things, she was a writer and producer for Bob Costas. |
Sally Tippett Rains lives in St. Louis with her husband Rob Rains, an author and the sports editor of the new online newspaper, www.Globe-Democrat.com. They are the parents of two grown sons, BJ and Mike who are Eagle Scouts. BJ also writes for Globe-Democrat.com and Mike is in college finishing up his degree in Sports Management. With all this sports in her life is it any wonder she found a way to combine Gone With The Wind with the 'Great American Pastime'? Hall of Fame baseball broadcaster Ernie Harwell wrote the books' foreword because he knew Margaret Mitchell and his family was friends with her.
